BUY A GIBSON TRUCK AND SAVE A LIFE!

BUY A GIBSON TRUCK WORLD CERTIFIED USED TRUCK AND SAVE A LIFE!

DAY 1
Topaz, 8 year old buckskin mare. At this time, very lame behind and has tooth or bone protruding from jawline. Head hanging and pretty weak. Maverick, 9 year old bay gelding. Not in as bad shape as Topaz, but still scoring around a '2' on the Henneke Body Scoring system. Attached are photos taken from previous owner's MySpace page which shows how healthy and substantial these pathetic creatures once looked.

DAY 3
Discovered that Topaz has foundered. We are working with vet and farrier to determine the prognosis. We need expensive xrays to determine the degree of rotation. Even with corrective shoeing for the rest of her life, a strict diet and constant monitoring - we have to ascertain if the future will be too bleak for her. She has been through so much and I am hoping for a miracle in that the founder is not too horrible, and perhaps she will have the chance to lead a semi-productive life as a light trail horse. For now, stall rest and a diet with low protein and sugar. It makes it harder to put the weight on her. She remains loving, grateful and content for the safe environment, daily grooming and attention, and of course, food! She is breaking my heart. As you can see, she looks so much better already - I really don't want to end her life and will seek every option first.

DAY 5
Topaz is doing very well. She has been on stall rest, free choice coastal, handfuls of senior feed, beet pulp, 4 gm bute per day for now, soaking foot in cold water for 20 minutes daily. She LOVES the grooming and attention and is a pretty good patient. She is getting more perky and curious each day - a real sweetie. Maverick has gained weight faster than any rescue we have had in. He is doing great and also very well-behaved for grooming and bathing. Maverick will not be long before he is back under saddle being re-trained! Western riders - he will be ready for adoption within 2 months .. all being well!

DAY 18
Topaz, 8 yo, buckskin quarter horse mare. 18 days after rescue. Our gorgeous, sweet and loving girl has not gained weight at the same rate as Maverick due to her foundering after her first trim with our farrier. She cannot have high protein or sugar. But the weight is slowly coming on, her head is held higher and that ugly excess hair is fast disappearing. She is just the most gentle, special, affectionate and grateful little girl - a real pleasure to have at our barn. Thanks to Gibson Truck World customers who purchased a Gibson Certified truck last weekend - a portion of all proceeds were donated toward the rehabilitation of this beautiful mare.

  1. Topaz is having her xrays taken today - this will determine her future. Thank you Gibson Truck World customers for helping toward her xrays. Topaz is very happy, she is walking more comfortably, her coat is now free of the fluffy hair and she looks so much better. She is a mooch for food, but as much as we want to feed her until she pops, the ... See Morefounder means she is on a low protein, low sugar diet. It also means the weight is not going on as fast as we would like to see. We will post the results of the xrays tomorrow - praying that she is not rotated too badly.

  2. Topaz is doing so well. We had her abcess drained by the vet and farrier and we are just treating and rebuilding the hoof. Her appetite is HUGE but we still have to monitor that we do not allow her anything too rich! She remains very sweet, loving, gentle and kind. She adores attention and takes a keen interest on all that is going on around her. We are slowly and steadily getting that weight back on her, but I anticipate another few months before she is up to a healthy weight again.
